1. Information We Collect

When you use Side Quest, we collect the following types of information:

Account Information

When you sign in with Apple, we receive your Apple ID-associated information, which may include your name and email address (or a private relay email if you choose to hide your email).

Location Data

With your permission, we collect your device's location to provide personalized quest recommendations near you. Location data is used only during active sessions to generate relevant recommendations and is not continuously tracked in the background.

Questionnaire Preferences

We collect the preferences you provide during the quest questionnaire, including quest type, vibe, group size, budget, time of day, and distance preferences. This data is used to personalize your recommendations.

Photos

When you complete a quest, you may optionally capture or select a photo to document your experience. These photos are stored in association with your account.

Usage Data

We collect information about how you interact with the App, including quests viewed, completed, and rated, as well as general app usage patterns.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Generate personalized quest recommendations using AI based on your preferences and location
  • Maintain your quest history and memory collection
  • Process purchases and manage your token balance
  • Manage your account and provide customer support
  • Send you notifications about active quests and new features (with your permission)
  • Improve and optimize the App's features and performance

3. Location Data

Location data is a core part of the Side Quest experience, as it allows us to recommend activities and venues near you. Here's how we handle your location data:

  • We only access your location when you actively use the App and grant permission
  • Your location is sent to our recommendation engine to generate nearby quest suggestions
  • We do not track your location in the background
  • You can revoke location permissions at any time through your device's settings, though this will limit the App's ability to provide localized recommendations

4. Photos and User Content

Photos you upload when completing quests are stored securely and associated with your account. Your photos are:

  • Visible only to you within your personal quest history
  • Not shared with other users or third parties
  • Deleted when you delete your account

5. AI and Personalization

Side Quest uses artificial intelligence to generate personalized quest recommendations. Your questionnaire responses and location data are sent to our AI service to generate relevant venue and activity suggestions. This data is used solely for the purpose of generating your recommendations and is not used to train AI models or shared with third parties for their own purposes.

6. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the App:

  • Supabase: For secure data storage, user authentication, and database management
  • Apple StoreKit: For processing in-app purchases and subscription management
  • Apple Sign In: For secure user authentication
  • Apple MapKit: For displaying venue locations on maps

Each of these services has their own privacy policies governing how they handle data. We encourage you to review their respective privacy policies.

7. Data Storage and Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. Your data is stored using industry-standard encryption and security practices through our infrastructure provider, Supabase. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.

8. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the service. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data, including quest history and photos, within 30 days. Some data may be retained longer if required by law or for legitimate business purposes such as fraud prevention.

9. Your Rights and Choices

You have the following rights regarding your data:

  • Access: You can view your quest history and preferences within the App
  • Deletion: You can delete your account and all associated data through the App's settings
  • Location: You can enable or disable location permissions through your device's settings
  • Notifications: You can manage notification preferences within the App's settings
  • Dietary Preferences: You can update or remove dietary restrictions and avoided categories at any time

10. Children's Privacy

Side Quest is not intended for children under 17 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 17. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 17, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy within the App or through other appropriate means. Your continued use of the App after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
